Carlos Alcaraz and Max Verstappen lead five-man shortlist to be crowned Laureus World Sportsman of the Year - with Jannik Sinner axed from nominees after doping ban


Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz is in contention to be crowned Laureus World Sportsman of the Year, with his rival Jannik Sinner removed from the shortlist because of his doping ban. Both men were set to be on a six-strong shortlist for the prestigious award - which was won last year by fellow tennis star Novak Djokovic - after claiming two Grand Slam titles apiece in 2024. However, Australian Open and US Open winner Sinner had his nomination withdrawn last week after recently receiving a three-month ban for failing two drug tests.
