Josh Allen and the Bills cruised to a 36-10 win over a Baltimore Ravens team that played most of Sunday's game without injured All-Pro quarterback Lamar Jackson or his backup, Tyler Huntley.
Baltimore's defense did enough to keep things close through the early portions of the third quarter. But the Bills opened the floodgates late as Allen made his mark on the Buffalo record book.
Allen's first touchdown pass of the game went to DJ Moore early in the fourth quarter.
It extended Buffalo's lead to 30-10 and gave Allen his 259th career passing touchdown in the regular season and postseason combined. That moved Allen past Bills icon and Hall of Famer Jim Kelly for the most in franchise history.
Kelly was in attendance to celebrate the achievement. And Allen added to his tally with one more touchdown to extend the blowout win.
With the victory, the Bills moved to 6-1 and remain in control of their path to the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs. They did so while a Ravens team that lost Jackson to a significant injury to the thumb on his throwing hand dropped to 4-4. The Ravens announced postgame that Jackson needs surgery and will go on injured reserve.
Buffalo, meanwhile, is guaranteed to leave Week 8 with no worse than a tie for the AFC's best record. The 5-1 Kansas City Chiefs can tie them with a win over the Denver Broncos. The Bills and Chiefs are slated for a Week 12 showdown in which the winner could emerge with the inside track to the No. 1 seed and coveted first-round bye in the AFC playoffs.
The Ravens, meanwhile, will be in a fight just to make the postseason. Jackson returned on Sunday after missing three games with a high-ankle sprain. He suffered the injury on his throwing hand on Baltimore's first play from scrimmage and did not return.
Jackson emerged from the halftime locker room in street clothes with a brace around his injured thumb and is set for an extended absence. Ravens head coach Jesse Minter wasn't certain if Jackson's injury would be season-ending.
Huntley, Jackson's backup, suffered a toe injury in the second quarter, and the Ravens had to finish Sunday's game with their emergency third quarterback, undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano.
Fagnano completed 10-of-21 passes for 91 yards (4.3 yards per attempt) with an interception and no touchdowns.
Allen recovered from a slow start to complete 21-of-34 passes for 289 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Buffalo outgained Baltimore's depleted offense, 426 yards to 144.
The Bills have a difficult matchup next Monday against the 6-1 Vikings in Minnesota. They'll then face the Jets and Dolphins before hosting the Chiefs on Nov. 26.
The Ravens will face the Jaguars, Chargers, Panthers and Texans before a Week 13 bye. They'll definitely do so without Jackson and hope that Huntley can return to lead their offense for those games.
Ravens head coach Jesse Minter told the media after the game that Lamar Jackson needs surgery on his thumb and he will go on IR.
This means Jackson has to miss Baltimore's next four games. The quarterback will be eligible to return at the earliest after the team's bye in Week 13.
Minter said "we'll see" when asked if the injury is season ending.
Jon Fagnano was able to avoid a fumble on an earlier drive, but not this time. He fumbled and Buffalo recovered.
This one will be over on the other side of the two-minute warning if Buffalo can get a first down.
Buffalo increased its lead over Baltimore.
Josh Allen threw a perfect pass to his tight end Dalton Kincaid for the 23-yard score.
The Bills lead 35-10 and this game is all but over.
Baltimore's biggest concern now becomes the health of Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley as the Ravens play the red-hot Jaguars on Thursday.
Bills running back James Cook landed awkwardly after being tackled. He was escorted to the sideline and taken into the blue medical tent.
Cook was evaluated for a concussion, but the team announced that he is cleared to return.
Jon Fagnano was sacked for a loss of nine, but fumbled. It was recovered by the Bills.
The play was reviewed and it was ruled to be an incomplete pass.
The Ravens kept the ball but faced fourth down on their own 44 yard line.
Josh Allen picked up 40 yards with a completion to Dalton Kincaid.
This got Buffalo into the red zone and Allen then found DJ Moore in the end one for the score.
The Bills went for two and did not get it. Buffalo leads 29-10 with 12:18 remaining.
After James Cook's touchdown early in the third quarter, the offenses have stalled.
Baltimore and Buffalo have traded punts with the Ravens getting the ball.
Buffalo leaads 23-10 with 2:02 left in the third quarter.
When Buffalo's offense is clicking, it can score in a hurry.
Josh Allen aired a ball out to DJ Moore who came down with an impressive contested catch for 49 yards.
After an incompletion, James Cook ran it to the right and scored a touchdown.
After the extra point, the Bills lead 23-10.
Baltimore has now ruled out both Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley for the remainder of the game.
Undrafted rookie Jon Fagnano will be the QB for the rest of the game. The broadcast said that if he gets hurt, running back Justice Hill will take over under center.
The Ravens also won't have much time to recover. Baltimore plays Jacksonville this coming Thursday.
Buffalo had fourth and 10 on the Baltimore 33-yard line. There was no desire to risk it and go for it so Joe Brady trotted out the kicking unit.
Tyler Bass was good from 51 yards out. Buffalo leads 16-7 with two seconds left in the half.
Fagnano's pass ricocheted off a Bills defender, but a teammate was able to come down with it.
Buffalo takes over with 1:08 remaining, already in field goal range.
The Bills were driving and Josh Allen hit DJ Moore for a gain of 19. When Moore was tackled, though, Baltimore was able to strip the ball from him before he was down.
Tyler Huntley is eligible to return for the Ravens, though he is still questionable.
Baltimore got into field goal range, but turned to kicker Tyler Loop after emergency quarterback Joe Fanano failed to get the Ravens into the end zone.
Loop's season struggles continued, and he doinked and missed a 34-yard field goal. Baltimore signed Jake Moody to its practice squad this week.
Buffalo leads 13-7 with 6:56 left in the first half.
Baltimore is now down to its emergency quarterback. Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano is in the game for the Ravens.
With Fagnano in the game, Huntley is now unable to return to the game per NFL rules.
The Baltimore defense is doing some bend don't break. Buffalo got down to the 3-yard line and had first and goal.
The Bills were unable to get into the end zone after a 0-yard run, 2-yard run and a run for a loss of three yards.
Tyler Bass was good on the 22-yard field goal.
After turning the ball over on downs, the Bills quickly got it back. Derrick Henry had a two yard run and Tyler Huntley had an incompletion.
On third down, Huntley was sacked, and he fumbled the ball backward. Buffalo recovered.
The Bills had run eight plays and were looking at fourth and four on the Ravens' 37-yard line. Rather than attempt a kick, Buffalo head coach Joe Brady opted to go for it.
Josh Allen aired it out to Keon Coleman, but it fell incomplete for the turnover on downs.
Derrick Henry did what Derrick Henry does. He got a carry at the 2-yard line and punched it into the end zone.
The Ravens trail 10-7 with 3:18 left in the first quarter.
Baltimore had its second three-and-out of the day.
On the first play of Buffalo's next drive, Josh Allen's pass was deflected into the air and a big lineman for the Ravens came down with it.
